My Nativity

via Daily Prompt: Above

It’s a cold, clear night in early January. Being a very traditional Catholic I’m still celebrating the Christmas season by pouring my eighth glass of rum and coke to wash down the three mince pies. I sway, very slightly, to the window and look outside to see a myriad of stars and decide to take my bottle of rum to the garage.

Standing in the doorway of the garage I take a sip of rum and look up at the stars shining above me. I wonder if Heaven is above the stars and if my mother is looking down on me. I wonder if there is a God in Heaven above looking down on me.  But above all I wonder if  I can rise above the cravings of my body and be born anew.
